Chicken that makes bizarre laughing sound prove a hit with locals in Thailand
A chicken that makes a bizarre laughing sound when it crows has proven a hit with locals in Thailand.
The rooster named Chao Kai Tong has been dubbed 'Kai Hua Ror' meaning 'the laughing chicken' for the distinct chuckle he makes whenever he crows.
Curious tourists visit Chao Kai Tong to hear him laugh at a mini zoo in Trang, Thailand.
Zoo owner Kiartivich Eadnoon, 50, said his love for animals inspired him to open his own zoo to the locals.
Speaking on June 21, he said he currently has a collection of chickens, deer, ducks, birds, crocodiles, turtles, and ostriches, but the star attraction was Chao Kai Tong, whose presence has attracted crowds of children and parents during the weekends.
Kiartivich said: 'I purchased Chao Kai Tong for 500 baht along with another chicken when he was just a month old. I raised him for nearly a year.
'As for his diet, he is fed regular chicken feed supplemented with herbs like green chiretta, turmeric, gurjo, and fresh chilli, which help protect against diseases and boost his immune system.
'His distinctive crow is intended to attract the attention of the female chickens.'
Chao Kai Tong would often crow in response to other roosters, livening up the atmosphere at the zoo, Kiartivich said.
The animal lover added that he has successfully bred more than 100 laughing chickens, and earns around 1,500 THB (43 USD) selling them weekly, while he keeps several pairs for himself to breed for later.
He said: 'I encourage other farmers to follow my breeding method and enter the market, as there is still a demand for laughing chickens. They can be raised and treated like any other chicken breed.'
