An ice cream cart left by a vendor on the roadside rolled across a road into busy traffic.

Dashcam footage shows the mobile desert shop as it was only seconds away from crashing into an oncoming car in Phuket, Thailand on June 4.

Fortunately, it reached the other side without hitting the passing drivers, as they were alert enough to notice it.

The local ice cream company that owns the pushcart later apologised for the incident.

Driver Thanapol said: ‘You have to be alert along these roads. There's always something unexpected happening.'

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools, cheap loans for cars, notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, as well as endemic corruption and chronic under-investment in infrastructure hamper the efforts.
