A horse was rescued from a backyard swimming pool in Florida after it was spooked by a mare and jumped in the water.

The palomino gelding named Mo plunged into the liquid outside at a home on Frontier Drive in Zephyrhills, Florida, on Tuesday evening at around 5 pm.

Firefighters from Pasco County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and used their ‘large animal rescue equipment' to hoist the horse out of the pool.

Footage shows the special team using a tractor to carefully lift the horse to safety.

Mo's owner, Cindy Buckel, told local media that her horse was trying to jump over the pool when it was spooked and landed inside instead.

‘He goes, 'I can leap over that, I guess,' and next thing we know, he's in the pool,' Cindy said.

‘It was kind of a beautiful leap into the pool. I mean, he would've scored a 10 if it was a diving thing.'

The horse was not injured in the incident and was able to walk away from the rescue unharmed.
