The World Nettle Eating Competition took place in Dorset, UK on Saturday, June 24.

The wacky annual competition involves dozens of participants eating the leaves from stalks of nettles for half an hour.

The number of stripped stalks are then counted. The person who eats the longest length of nettles will be crowned Nettle King for the Mens winner and the Nettle Queen for the Ladies competitors.

No serious injuries were reported at the event which took place at the family-run Dorset Nectar Cider Farm in Waytown near Bridport in Dorset.

Organisers describe it as "a uniquely quirky Dorset event."

According to the Bridport and Lyme Regis News website, the annual competition used to take part annually at the Bottle Inn in Marshwood, where it started to gain worldwide attention. But that pub closed in 2020, putting the future of the competition in doubt.

Dorset Nectar Cider Farm took on the event in 2022.
