An elderly man luckily escaped serious injuries after falling into a sinkhole that suddenly opened up on a sidewalk in southern China.

CCTV footage filmed in the county of Lingshui in Sichuan Province on June 22, shows a section of a sidewalk suddenly collapsing, causing an elderly man to fall into the pit.

A kind-hearted man then jumped into the sinkhole to manage to rescue the elderly man with the help of other nearby residents.

Medical professionals reportedly arrived at the scene and transported the elderly man to receive further treatment.

Local authorities in Linshui County stated that heavy rain had pounded the area on June 21, leading to the issuance of a red weather warning for torrential rain. It is believed that the collapse of the sidewalk was caused by the excessive water inundation, resulting in loosened soil beneath the pavement.

Fortunately, the elderly man only had scratches on his body.
