Dozens of homes were damaged when a monsoon storm struck a village in northeast Thailand.

The storm wreaked havoc on the Ban Nong Bot community in Nakhon Ratchasima, tearing through dozens of homes on June 24.

Authorities said more than 100 homes and a local school were affected, with 50 houses significantly damaged as the strong winds uprooted trees and ripped off zinc roofing.

Several roads were also blocked by fallen trees, while power and water supply were temporarily cut off.

Some residents suffered minor injuries when they were struck by flying zinc sheets, but no casualties were reported.

Bamrung Ringkratoke, a member of Khok Kachai Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, said on Friday: 'The storm struck at around 3:40 pm and lasted for around 30 minutes.

'The relevant agencies are now surveying the damage to determine the compensation for the affected individuals.'

Bamrung described the storm as the 'most severe to hit the village in history'.

Khon Buri district officials have established an assistance centre to aid residents waiting for repairs. They said they were coordinating with relevant agencies to provide relief for the affected locals.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are approaching their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
