STORYLINE:

In anticipation of the upcoming religious festival Eid al-Adha, the goat market in the Indian capital is witnessing a significant surge in activity.

Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on June 29 this year.

The Jama Masjid's goat market in Old Delhi showcases a wide variety of goats and fat-tailed sheep.

Prices range from 20,000 Indian rupees (244 U.S. dollars) to 800,000 Indian rupees (9,758 U.S. dollars), depending on the breed and quality.

As the demand for sacrificial goats rises before Eid al-Adha, customers are facing difficulties due to soaring prices.

SOUNDBITE (Hindi): GULAFSHA, Local resident
"Earlier, I used to buy four goats, but now I am hesitating to purchase even one due to the high prices. Currently, they are asking for 3 lakhs (3,660 U.S. dollars) for a goat, but I once paid 1 lakh (1,220 U.S. dollars) for it."
