Fourteen schoolchildren were injured in a horror crash when a Porsche hit their bus on a motorway in Thailand.

The pupils were on their way home when the sports car was struck by a speeding Mini Cooper the smashed into their pick-up truck on Highway 304 in Chachoengsao on Friday June 23.

Dramatic dashcam footage shows the truck spinning and flipping over on the road while the Porsche smashed into a nearby vegetable shop. The children and their chaperones were seen climbing out of the truck as shocked locals ran over for assistance.

Police Captain Bundit Supkong from the Mueang Chachoengsao Police Station said officers received a report at around 5 pm and rushed to the scene with medics.

They found the terrified schoolchildren crying from panic and fear. Hospital staff administered first aid to the kids and took them to the Buddhasothorn Hospital to treat their abrasions and minor head injuries.

Also at the scene were the three damaged vehicles and the pupils' belongings crushed under the truck.

Police Captain Bundit said: 'We have summoned the three drivers involved in the accident to the station for questioning. We will also be reviewing dashcam footage and conduct alcohol level tests as part of the investigation to gather evidence for further legal action.'

Pick-up truck driver Nichanan Intana, 31, said she had fetched the children from the Donthong School and Benchamaratrungsarit 2 Schools when their vehicle was violently struck by the Porsche.

Meanwhile, Anuchit, the driver of the Porsche car, said that he was returning from a farm when the Mini Cooper made a sudden turn and hit him. The crash sent his Porsche into the vegetable shop, where it hit a parked motorcycle.

Shop owner Sommai Boonprasert, 38, said he had been eating when the car crashed into his shop. He said: 'I was lucky I was in a different room at the time. I would have had no time to react.'

Mini Cooper driver Kritamet Intaveakin, 30, said he was making a left turn towards a fuel station, but his view was blocked by an 18-wheeler in front of him. When he finally switched lanes, he did not see the oncoming Porsche, resulting in the crash.

He said: 'I am sincerely sorry for causing the accident. I am willing to cover the hospital expenses for the injured students and support them in any way I can.'

He denied allegations that he was drag racing and said he was merely a fast driver.

He said he has also met with the children's parents and given them fruit baskets and money as an apology.

Meanwhile, none of the students suffered serious injuries, authorities said. They have left the hospital and are safely at home.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
