STORYLINE:
2023 WRC Safari Rally Kenya concluded on Sunday with French driver Sebastien Ogier beating teammate and World Champion Kalle Rovanpera.
It is the 39-year-old Ogier's second Safari Rally victory after previously having won the 2021 edition.
The Frenchman and his navigator Vincent Landais were presented their trophies by Kenya's President William Ruto at the scenic Hell's Gate finish, some 100km northwest of the capital Nairobi.
It capped a frenzied final day that saw over 50,000 fans converge at the finish area, causing a traffic snarl up that saw some fans spend the night on the roads up from Nairobi.
Kenyan President William Ruto said the government was committed to the establishment of Safari Rally Academy to nurture talents in the country.
He said the academy will serve as an international center for the promotion of Safari Rally activities in the country.
