An elephant calf was trapped in a garden water tank in northeastern India's Assam. Forest department officials along with the locals rescued the animal.

This incident happened in Holonguri Tea Estate in Mariani town of Jorhat district on June 26.

Visuals showed the pachyderm struggling inside the water tank. People stood on one side and watched as the elephant trumpeted loudly, calling for help as it could not stay afloat in the water. There was mud all around in the water which might have even caused it to slip every time it tried to come out. The poor animal explored all possibilities for it to come out of the water tank and even was seen trying to dig out the ground next to it. But all efforts seemed in vain as it could not get out of the water.

The forest department arrived at the spot and completed the rescue operation, after the locals had almost pulled the animal out. The locals also expressed their disappointment at the forest department on such tanks not being covered which could have prevented accidents like these.

Such incidents have taken place in the past as well in the Dihingapara and Kathalguri tea gardens as well.
