Tourists hiked for more than five hours to watch this spectacular volcano eruption in Guatemala.

The backpackers travelled to Antigua City and began their journey by foot on the challenging terrains on April 28.

Footage shows the group with their heavy bags trekking on the rough path. They reached the base camp at Acatenango Volcano more than five hours later.

They continued their hike towards Fuego Volcano, where they witnessed its crater's mesmerising spewing of lava and thick smoke.

Tourist Steven Ng Haing said: ‘It was a mentally and physically tough hike up to basecamp, where you sleep overnight just below the summit of Acatenango while watching the glowing eruptions of Fuego.

‘This overnight adventure is not for the faint of heart but promises an experience of a lifetime. Be prepared to push your limits, conquer challenges, and make lasting memories and new friends.'

Fuego It sits around 16 kilometers (10 miles) west of Antigua, the country's picturesque former capital and biggest tourist attraction.

The volcano has erupted frequently since the Spanish conquest. The November 2018 eruption was the deadliest in Guatemala's history, killing more than 200 people.
