STORYLINE:

The 17th ASEAN-China Forum on Social Development and Poverty Reduction opened on Monday in the coastal city of Beihai in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

More than 200 participants from various sectors attended the forum, which aimed to strengthen the cooperation on poverty reduction and rural development between China and ASEAN countries.

"Through this Forum, I hope we can further discuss and elaborate better strategies to address deprivation and exclusion faced by women, older persons, children, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups."

Participants exchanged views on topics such as market integration, trade and food security, and discussed strengthening the resilience of rural areas and preventing a large-scale return to poverty.
