This is the moment a speeding motorcyclist was clotheslined by a level crossing barrier as it was being lowered.

The driver had been trying to beat the red light, but struck the barrier near the Makkasan Station in Bangkok, Thailand on June 26.

Security footage shows how the motorist skidded across the tracks when he hit the white-and-orange barrier meant to stop him. The fence had also bent when it was dragged by the rushing motorbiker.

Railway authorities said train No 277 going from Bangkok to Chachoengsao was approaching the crossing when the accident happened.

The rider suffered minor scrapes and to add insult to injuury, was fined for the damage he caused to the barrier.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
