A cheeky wild monkey tricked a tourist to steal her bag and make-up.

The macaque started out by being friendly, sitting beside a group of holidaymakers on a gazebo in Ubud Monkey Forest in Bali, Indonesia, on May 20.

But after scratching and biting a woman's purse for a little while, it decided that it wanted the object for itself and scared them away.

Footage shows the creature's mood shifting from calm to menacing so that it could take the bag away. The other tourists tried to catch it but it was swift and dodged them quickly.

Tourist Josefine Andrea Kleist, from Denmark, said: ‘The monkey was only poking on it at first. Then suddenly, it wanted to keep it.'

The monkey then unzipped the small black bag and pulled out a compact foundation make-up, making it even more excited to escape.

It then escaped onto a tree with its troop and kept the bag. It was unclear if the belongings had been retrieved after the incident.
