A bungling paraglider lost control while he was landing and crashed through a shop roof in Thailand.

Footage shows the hapless holidaymaker slowly drifting down towards the market while locals were celebrating a festival in Loei, a mountainous province in the country's northeast, on June 24.

But instead of the open area in the grass fields, the tourist misjudged his aim and smashed through a canopy of stalls.

Shocked vendors screamed as the paraglider fell towards them while he was tangled in the rented flying gear.

Onlooker Sakawaduean Chan Nai said: ‘I don't know why he veered off track. We weren't aware he had lost control until he fell through the roof.'

The tent's roof was dented as the man landed on its steel frames. But aside from the paraglider, no one else was hurt. He managed to walk away unharmed from the crash.

Sakawaduean added: ‘I hope this serves as a lesson for everyone to be more careful. It was an event with many people. It was a shock for us and he could have hurt them too.'

When the incident happened, the locals were celebrating Phi Ta Khon Festival, where Buddhist followers pray to Gods for rain.
