STORYLINE:
The United States defeated Poland 3-2 (17-25, 25-15, 27-25, 28-30, 16-14) in Suwon, South Korea on Wednesday, climbing to the top of the FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League with an 8-1 win-loss record.
Poland slipped to the second with seven wins and one defeat.
The top two in the 16-team table went neck and neck from the beginning, but Poland led the first set in the middle of the game on superior attacking and blocking.
The United States took control of the second set and fought off a hard challenge from Poland in the third set with successful spikes from outside hitters Alexandra Frantti and Kelsey Robinson.
In the fourth set, the Polish built up a 17-14 lead with successful blocks and dragged the match into the short decider.
In the fifth set, the two teams leveled score at 10-10 and four more times before the U.S. side finished the match with a powerful spike.
Robinson and Andrea Drews were the best scorers for the United States with 20 points apiece, while Magdalena Stysiak of Poland scored the match high of 28 points.
