Vegetable prices soar in India; costlier than petrol

The prices of tomatoes have skyrocketed in several states recently due to heavy rainfall and heatwaves in tomato-growing areas. The prices have shot up in states including Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

It's very difficult for people to buy vegetables now. Price of tomatoes has gone up to Rs 100-120 per kg. Garlic are Rs 180-200 per kg and Ginger are Rs 240-300 per kg in many parts of the country. The customers have started demanding the government’s intervention in controlling and regularising the prices.
