"Haitun 1," China's first intelligent research vessel equipped with a digital twin system, set out on its maiden voyage on Friday in Penglai City, east China's Shandong Province.

Heading for Qingdao, the capital city of Shandong, the vessel will conduct a series of experiments along the way using the latest technologies including panoramic lidar, 360-degree panoramic infrared vision system, and sound signal recognition system.

The vessel, developed by Harbin Engineering University, is 25 meters long with a displacement of about 100 tons.

It can accurately detect tiny targets 0.5 meters above the water surface within a distance of two nautical miles.

The successful development of "Haitun 1" is expected to promote the practical application and frontier exploration of digital twin technology in China's shipbuilding field.
