Footage of a 'Tea Duelling' event which took place during a Steampunk festival in Gloucester this afternoon (July 2).

The ‘Steampunks of Gloucestershire’ event is one of many where tea duelling contests take place. Steampunk is described as a “style of literature, music, and performance inspired by all things Victoriana with a generous mix of futuristic ideals.” Among those taking part in the duel was Gloucester City Rector & Cathedral Canon, Nikki Arthy.

In a tea duel, biscuits are submerged in tea for a count of five seconds, before competitors attempt to eat them. The goal is to get a clean "nom", which is when you put the biscuit in your mouth and bite it without having lost any pieces along the way. As the biscuit has been submerged in tea, it will begin to melt, presenting difficulty in completing a clean "nom".
