The mother and the sister of activist Alaa Abd el-Fattah join a vigil organised by Amnesty International outside the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) in London.

The British-Egyptian man was sentenced to five years in prison in December 2021 for sharing a Facebook post about human rights abuses in Egyptian prisons.

100 MPs and peers have signed a letter, which will be submitted to the Foreign Office, calling on the government to accelerate the attempts to free the activist, change the travel advice for British people going to Egypt and lead a joint statement at the UN.
