A hapless kitten stuck on the edge of a dirty canal was rescued with a box and a rope in South Korea.

The tiny feline was playing among the thick plants when it fell down the concrete structure in Pyeongtaek City.

It cried while clinging to the steep space only a few inches away from the water until a kind passerby found it.

Footage shows the kitten standing on the DIY rescue material while it was being slowly lifted up the canal.

The creature's rescuer Tan Wongsathon said: ‘I took the cat back to the village after that. It shouldn't be playing around that area because it's too dangerous near the water.'

The kitten was safe and unhurt after being rescued from the canal. It was fed after being taken back to the village.
