​A disgusting video has emerged from China of worm-like parasites swimming around inside a man's eye.

The footage, captured using a microscopic camera at a hospital in Chongqing on Wednesday, shows the organisms moving around on the surface of the eye - using their flagella to propel themselves along.

According to local reports, the man had previously been complaining of itchy eyes, and went to see a doctor - where the 'thelaziasis' parasites were discovered.

According to an article published in the Stanford University Press, the appearance of the parasites is very rare in humans, with most cases involving pets.

Thankfully, the parasites were successfully removed, with the patient suffering no further complications.

眼睛里爬出小虫 竟是结膜吸吮线虫
本以为眼睛又干又痒，不是什么大问题。可市民小周到医院一检查，他的眼睛里竟然爬出几条小丝虫。在托盘里慢慢蠕动的这些丝状小虫，就是从小周的眼睛里取出来的。这些半透明的小虫子是医生用镊子，从小周眼睛里取出来的。小周说，他原来以为眼睛发痒，有些疼痛跟他经常看手机和电脑有关。
爱尔眼科医院眼表专科副主任任毅说，这种丝状小虫的学名叫做结膜吸吮线虫，是一种寄生虫。一般寄生在猫狗等动物眼中，通常跟不注意眼部卫生有关。
任主任说，结膜吸吮线虫头端尖细并有硬角质，很容易损伤角膜和结膜。如果这些小虫继续在眼睛里穿行，一旦侵入泪小管或寄生于结膜下，还会引发睫状充血、视力下降，形成肉芽肿，导致眼睛感染。还好，小周就诊及时，医生已经把这些寄生虫从眼睛里夹出来，避免眼睛受到更大伤害。
