STORYLINE

Tanzania's leading trade fair on Tuesday celebrated China Day and launched a pavilion accommodating more than 100 Chinese companies.

Tanzania's Zanzibar Minister of Trade and Industrial Development Omar Said Shaaban addressed attendees at the 47th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), emphasizing the significance of China Day in strengthening the bilateral relationship between Tanzania and China.

"Today as we celebrate China Day. We also acknowledge the remarkable progress made by the People's Republic of China in becoming a global economic powerhouse. China's rapid development, impressive infrastructure projects and commitments to innovations have made it a role model for many nations including ours. We applaud the Chinese government for its dedication in sustainable development and its efforts in poverty alleviations."

Shaaban added that Chinese investments in Tanzania have brought about job opportunities, improved infrastructure, and propelled the growth of key industries.

"More than 200 Chinese companies have invested and operated in Tanzania, covering agriculture, manufacturing, mining, tourism, service industries and other fields, assisting Tanzania to promote its industrialization process."

Chen introduced that from January to May this year, the bilateral trade volume between China and Tanzania reached 3.3 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 18 percent year-on-year.
