A scooter's battery triggered a massive blaze, decimating bikes and shops in southern China.

Video filmed in Yangjiang City on June 29 shows black smoke rising into the sky.

The initial spark of the blaze originated from the battery of a white scooter. The fire started small, but within minutes, it spread dramatically.

The fierce fire soon engulfed more than 30 nearby vehicles, with the flames quickly spreading upwards towards the building, resulting in thick, rolling clouds of smoke.

The incident affected three neighbouring businesses, causing extensive damage to the exterior decor of the buildings and multiple air conditioning units.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and, after a strenuous 20-minute operation, succeeded in extinguishing the open flames. They continued spraying water on the building's exterior walls to cool down the temperature, preventing further damage to the structure.

According to a local government official, the cause of the fire was a self-igniting scooter battery, which, due to the initial lack of prompt firefighting measures, led to the rapid spread of the fire.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
