A convoy of tractors rolled through Madrid on July 5 as farmers demand the government take action to help them through a drought.

The group also demanded the government guarantee a supply of water and food at reasonable prices for their livestock.

La tractorada ha reunido a centenares de agricultores por las calles del centro de Madrid para exigir medidas ante la “ruina” del campo por la sequía ha finalizado su recorrido de más de dos horas a las puertas del Ministerio de Agricultura, Pesca y Alimentación.

Varios centenares de agricultores llegados desde distintos puntos del país, comenzaron sobre las 11.15 un acto de protesta para pedir más ayudas y celeridad a la hora de aprobar las medidas.

Convocados por la organización Unión de Uniones, los agricultores llegaron esta mañana a la capital española tras varios días de ruta desde autonomías como Extremadura, Castilla y León, Comunidad Valenciana, Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha y Cataluña.

Unión de Uniones calcula que las ayudas aprobadas sólo podrán cubrir un 3 % las pérdidas que se están dando, y reclama “mayor contundencia” y responsabilidad al Gobierno actual y al que se conforme tras las elecciones generales del 23 de julio.

En concreto, ven necesario flexibilizar la PAC para que no se pierdan ayudas; una planificación hidrológica que aproveche “al máximo” el agua; seguros agrarios que respondan “de verdad” a la situación de emergencia; retrasar la aplicación del cuaderno digital y “compensar el sobrecoste” que supone para las explotaciones.

Además, exigen garantías para el suministro de agua y alimentación a precios “razonables” al ganado, así como prevenir y compensar los daños a la agricultura y ganadería “por la sobrepoblación de la fauna silvestre”.

Los concentrados han portado pancartas en las que se podían leer que el campo ‘se arruina y no puede esperar’ y están haciendo sonar las bocinas de los tractores como acto de protesta.

The tractorada has brought together hundreds of farmers through the streets of central Madrid to demand measures in the face of the "ruin" of the countryside due to the drought. It has finished its journey of more than two hours at the gates of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

Several hundred farmers from different parts of the country began an act of protest around 11:15 to ask for more aid and speed in approving the measures.

Summoned by the Unión de Uniones organization, the farmers arrived in the Spanish capital this morning after traveling several days from regions such as Extremadura, Castilla y León, the Valencian Community, Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha and Catalonia.

Unión de Uniones calculates that the aid approved will only be able to cover 3% of the losses that are taking place, and demands “greater forcefulness” and responsibility from the current Government and the one that conforms after the general elections on July 23.

Specifically, they see it as necessary to make the CAP more flexible so that aid is not lost; hydrological planning that makes the most of water; agricultural insurance that responds "truly" to the emergency situation; delay the application of the digital notebook and "compensate for the extra cost" that it entails for farms.

In addition, they demand guarantees for the supply of water and food at "reasonable" prices to livestock, as well as preventing and compensating damage to agriculture and livestock "due to the overpopulation of wildlife."

The concentrates have carried banners in which it could be read that the field "is ruined and cannot wait" and they are honking the horns of the tractors as an act of protest.
