An urban explorer has shared his exploration of an abandoned town which locals have allegedly compared to “Chernobyl”.

TikTok user @special_six, who has chosen not to share their name, found the location after hearing about the town online, which was once a tourist hotspot.

A billionaire businessman originally built the town, Ten-Bel, and named it after his two homes, Tenerife and Belgium.

The holiday village was built in 1960, as he wanted to create the first 'artificial holiday city’ in Spain.

A video of the TikToker’s exploration has gone viral online, garnering 313,000 views.

In the clip, he says: "It became the jewel in the crown of tourism in the Canary Islands.

“Everything was going well, Ten-Bel received millions of tourists, the praise of all the Canaries.”

But everything changed in 2002 when the owner died and the business was passed onto his daughter.

She reportedly sold the city to several companies, who didn't know what to do with the town.

The TikToker added: "When these businessmen found themselves bankrupt, they left the area abandoned.”

In the clip, the content creator can be seen in a building surrounded by toys and old clothes.

He then pans the camera to show a rotting park, and a dated mini golf course.

More abandoned buildings can be seen, as well as old cafés and offices.

The post gathered over 23,100 likes and hundreds of comments.

User Aday said: “What a blast, I had never even heard of its existence.”

Someone else commented: “I was there in the 90’s, and it was a marvel in the whale pool.”

Guillesese added: “I’d spend my summers there.”

Atteneri wrote: “I spent a few summers there, I loved it.”

“What memories,” said Nani

“That site was beautiful,” added Denada.

“I grew up in the area, now they are going to start remodelling things,” said Martina.
