Arab Parliament held on Wednesday the ninth meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Observatory for Human Rights, to discuss a set of important issues, on top of which is the Observatory's action plan over the next 10 years.

Adel Al-Assoumi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, confirmed in his speech that the Observatory will remain strongly supportive of the development of the Arab system for human rights, in accordance with objective mechanisms and standards.

SOUNDBITE (Arabic): ADEL AL-ASSOUMI, Speaker of the Arab Parliament
"The observatory continues to monitor the nonstop crimes and violations of the Israeli occupier against the unarmed Palestinian people, the last of which is the crime in the city of Jenin that reflects the ugly face of human rights violations and the criminal practices of the occupying authority."

The Israeli forces pulled out on Tuesday night from Jenin and its refugee camp, ending two days of a large-scale military operation.

According to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, the Israeli military operation in Jenin left 13 Palestinians dead and at least 150 others wounded, including 30 in critical condition.

Israel said the military operation aimed to rein in militants of Palestinian factions, including the Islamic Jihad and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
