Drone footage from July 7th showed a blanket of toxic foam on the Tiete River in the city of Salto, in Sao Paulo state, Brazil.

The noxious foam is caused largely by chemical and detergent waste dumped into the river, which runs through the state including through the city of Sao Paulo, home to over 12 million people.

Situated 110 km away from the state capital, Salto endures the consequences of pollution flowing into the city via the river.

This unpleasant foamy layer primarily consists of untreated detergent waste and chemical residues that have been irresponsibly discharged into the river.
