A tragic groom has passed away just a day after an emotional hospital wedding with his bride.

Ryan Dack, 30, was due to marry girlfriend Rosie, 25, in August but was told there was nothing doctors could do to help him after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

He had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a serious condition that causes progressive muscle weakness but he also developed pneumonia at the end of June.

Ryan was then told on June 25 that there was nothing more hospital staff could do for him so the couple decided to make Ryan's final wish come true and get married.

The pair wed hours after being told the tragic news at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital but sadly Ryan died the day after the happy couple got married.

Rosie, who has Gorham Stouts Disease, a rare condition that weakens bones, said: "When he found out, he said to his carer: ‘I need to get married’."

"It was his final wish. "

"I got to the hospital around 3am and he told me that he wouldn’t be here for much longer and in that moment, I thought that our wedding had been taken."

"Instead he said: ‘so we are getting married today’. "

"And sure enough, by 8.45am we were saying our vows." "

Friends and family gathered in the hospital's critical care ward for the wedding but Rosie was unable to wear her wedding dress as it was being altered.

But she still said the day was perfect as they 'had each other'.

Rosie said: "I look back on our wedding, we didn’t have the big, beautiful dress and four-tiered cake, suits and ties."

"But we had each other. "

"We had our families around us and that was better and more sentimental, it meant more to us than a big fairytale wedding."

The couple met in 2014 as the pair both played in wheelchair football teams and they quickly hit it off.

They even made a pact that if they were both single by 2020, that they would become a couple - so Ryan asked Rosie out on New Years Eve.

Rosie and Ryan also bonded over playing wheelchair football and Rosie said they 'owe their whole relationship to the sport.'

She said: "We got on really well and made a pact that if we were both still single by 2020, we would get together."

"He remembered that and asked me on New Year's Eve."

"Wheelchair football is something we were both really passionate about, it brings all different peoples and abilities onto a court."

"It made us feel independent and allowed us to express ourselves – we owe our whole relationship to the sport." "

Rosie is asking for donations to be made to the Community Sports Foundation (CSF), as they both played for the Norwich City Powerchair team.

Darren Hunter, disability development manager at CSF, said Ryan's passing was 'very sad' and said he will be 'sorely missed by the players and coach.'

He said: "We are very sad at Ryan’s passing. "

"He will be sorely missed by the players and coach."

"Our thoughts at this time are with Rosie and the rest of the family."
