STORYLINE:
An annual festival of Mongolia's national costume kicked off in Ulan Bator on Saturday to encourage the younger generation to wear traditional clothing and promote the development of tourism sector.
Thousands of people dressed in Mongolian deel, the traditional costume, across Mongolia as well as more than 200 representatives of Mongolian ethnic groups of China and Russia participated in the 17th edition of the festival titled "Mongolians in Deel" in the central square of Ulan Bator, according to the capital city's Department of Tourism.
The Mongolian traditional costume consists of a deel, a hat, boots and accessories. Among them, deel is the main item of traditional Mongolian clothing commonly worn for centuries.
The one-day festival includes various activities such as a fashion parade, a disco in deel among children and youth, the best deel contest, a national clothing exhibition and a folk music concert and dance.
