This is the heart-stopping moment a soldier made a crash landing when his parachute failed during military drills in Indonesia.

Footage shows the unnamed troop from the Indonesian Air Force Command Battalion 466 Command for Fast Action (Kopasgat) plummeting at high speed from the clear sky in the Maros Regency of South Sulawesi Province on July 10.

Onlookers were shocked when they saw the man and his parachute spiraling uncontrollably in the air as he dropped towards a residential area.

A rescue team and medics rushed to the site, where they found the soldier alive but unconscious with a broken left arm. Doctors said the man was in a stable condition and is recovering at the hospital.

Major Sendang Arum, Head of Information Service for the Indonesian Air Force, Hasanuddin Air Base, said: 'There was a problem with the parachute used by the soldier. The parachute did not deploy properly and the wind conditions were relatively unstable.

'Thank God everything has been handled. Please just pray that the parachutist will recover quickly.

'The jump activity is a routine activity, as a refreshing plunge at the predetermined drop zone or landing site.'
