On the morning of July 10, 2023, just a few minutes past 8 a.m., an ordinary commute turned extraordinary for Tony LaFreniere, a local resident driving on I-20 on his way to work.

While talking to his wife on the phone, LaFreniere spotted a chilling scene unfolding ahead. A car had violently smashed into a sign, the initial tendrils of smoke were starting to rise ominously from the wreck. "I see up ahead someone running up to a car that was smashed into a sign, there was a little smoke at the time," he recalls.

As he neared the accident, the tableau of courage and quick-thinking began to take shape. Good Samaritans dashed fearlessly towards the vehicle in peril. With the smoke intensifying and the imminent danger of an explosion, a group of strangers worked frantically to pull the woman from the wreckage.

Their efforts bore fruit just in time; they managed to extricate the woman from the burning car before it erupted in a fiery explosion. LaFreniere was quick to praise these brave individuals, saying "These guys here are heroes!! It’s awesome we have people like this in the world!!"

The shocking incident served as a vivid testament to the courage and selflessness of everyday heroes, playing out on I-20 en route to Weatherford, Texas.
