This is the heart-stopping moment a motorist taking pupils to school crashed into an oncoming motorcycle in Thailand.

Dashcam footage shows the female driver and two children - who were not wearing helmets - crossing a double yellow line in front of the school in the Klaeng District of Rayong province on July 4.

As she made a turn towards the entrance, she collided with an oncoming motorbike.

Onlooker Noppadol Maipromma said the drivers and passengers suffered abrasions, were given first aid, and did not need to be hospitalised.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
