White albino whale calf filmed in Australia on holiday in Ningaloo. Could this be the next Migaloo?
First sighted off Ningaloo reef, Western Australia, the albino humpback whale calf and its entourage have made a reappearance off the coast of Coral Bay. The below aerial footage captured by drone reveals the true beauty of this rare occurrence.
In 30 years of humpback whale research, never before has an albino whale been sighted in Western Australia. The chances of seeing an albino of this species is one in 40,000. This rare phenomena, and a calf at that, had appeared in the north coast of WA.
The new born and its mother, along with another adult humpback had been sighted, swimming together just 200 metres off shore. Captured by the DJI Mini 3 Pro Drone in 4K 30fps high definition video, these gentle giants draw to the surface for air and display the nurturing of echelon swimming; the mother-calf position allowing the calf to keep up. This calf, distinctly pale in colour, is seen surfacing alone as it begins its journey of life as a rare marvel of nature.
The location of this sighting, Western Australia’s north coast, is a popular tourist destination for both local Aussie’s, and international visitors alike. Coral Bay, formally settled in 1968, has increasingly attracted high volumes of sightseers. Through its colourful reef, plentiful fishing opportunities, four wheel drive tracks and the infamous Bill’s Bay, Coral Bay is quickly becoming a popular WA destination.
The remarkable appearance of an albino humpback calf was experienced not far the from shore. This rarity observed from the beach and recorded by drone illustrates the bountiful adventures offered by Western Australia’s abounding north coast.
