STORYLINE:
International Confucian Association Sinology Camp for Young Scholars opened in Wuyishan City, east China's Fujian Province on July 9.
During the 7-day period, 22 young sinology scholars and international students from 16 countries visited Wuyishan City, Jianyang District of Nanping City, and Shaowu City, to seek the source of Neo-Confucianism and explore Chinese culture.
After the opening ceremony, scholars studying Sinology-related majors from 12 universities, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Renmin University, bowed to the statue of Zhu Xi, the preeminent Neo-Confucian master of the Southern Song Dynasty.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): DARIO FAMULARO, Italian student, Fudan University
"Zhu Xi is one of the most important figures in Chinese philosophy, so coming here gave me another chance to re-read Zhu's works, and to communicate with some experts, I think these are great opportunities."
SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): YAMAKAWA YURI, Japanese student, Beijing Foreign Studies University
"During my research, I found out that in the Song Dynasty (960-1279), there was an art of preparing tea in cups called Dian cha in Wuyishan. And I thought of the way how matcha is prepared in Japan. I wanted to come here to see if there were any differences or cultural similarities. Also, I wanted to experience the tea culture in Wuyishan."
