A monitor lizard jumped off the roof and crawled around a hot pot restaurant.

The reptile was first seen wandering around the establishment's parking lot in Lopburi province, Thailand on May 25.

But on May 26, the creature found a chance to enter. From the roof where it had been climbing to the back of the property, it jumped down and searched for an entrance.

CCTV footage shows the lizard diving into the concrete and rushing towards the restaurant on May 26.

Restaurant manager Mituna Pongthin said: ‘I believe that money will go to our shop because lizards are lucky.'

Mituna added the creature left the restaurant on its own undetected.

She said: ‘We even only found out about it while reviewing the security cameras around our restaurant. It left on its own.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
