A loyal pet cat chased away a deadly snake that was slithering towards a terrified mother and daughter.

Kamonthip Sirithap and her four-year-old child Brink was sweeping the yard when they spotted the serpent heading in their direction in Kamphaeng Phet, Thailand on June 26.

Footage shows the terrified pair holding each other's hands and moving away to evade the creature.

But the snake turned to hide in the bushes as their tabby pet cat named Meow and the girl's father chased it away.

Kamonthip said: ‘The snake suddenly appeared. I thought it was going after us. My daughter and I were so scared. Thankfully my cat is braver than us and scared the snake away.'

The snake was later caught and released by a local animal catching team.
