A Swedish boxer was killed and his pillion passenger severely injured in a horror motorcycle crash with a cement truck in Thailand.

Abdurrahmaan Omer Abdelat Mohamed Nour, 21, and Truls Johan Heribertssoi, 15, emerged on the bike from an alleyway only to be struck by the oncoming vehicle in Pathum Thani, Thailand, on Thursday afternoon.

The riders were flung several feet from the Honda Dream two-wheeler, which was crushed beneath the truck's tires, on the Leab Klong Prem Prachakorn Road some 25 miles north of Bangkok.

Police Captain Woraphak Supasawad of the Sam Khok District Police Station said they were notified of the accident at 3:20 pm. He went to the scene with traffic police, medics, and forensics officers to investigate.

Authorities found the road strewn with debris and shattered vehicle parts, with the motorcycle crumpled beneath the cement truck.

Around 32 feet away, teenager Truls lay on the road with blood oozing from his nose and mouth. He was rushed to the Samkhok Hospital, then transferred to the Pathum Thani Hospital to receive urgent medical care.

Next to a rubbish bin was Abdurrahmaan's lifeless body. Police said he had a severe head wound that exposed part of his skull, while his arms and legs were twisted and fractured.

Thai boxer Piyaphan Chinanad, or Moses Sangtiennoi, 32, came to the wreckage and identified both of the victims. He said that both youngsters had enrolled at his boxing camp for a Muay Thai course a month before the accident.

Abdurrahmaan, known in the boxing scene as 'Abdul', was said to be a promising young Muay Thai boxer in Sweden. He was scheduled to return to his hometown with friends on July 24.

Truck driver Sombat Sophan, 43, told police that he was delivering cement to Nonthaburi province when the motorbike appeared from an alley to his right.

He said: 'The motorcycle hit the front of the truck then slipped under the wheels. I couldn't brake in time because the crash happened so fast.'

He added that he called the police upon seeing the severity of the Swedish men's injuries.

Police Captain Woraphak from the Sam Khok district station said: 'Forensic doctors at the Central Institute of Forensic Science at Thammasat University Hospital are conducting a post-mortem to find the cause of death.

'We are also reviewing camera footage to aid in the investigation. The truck driver will be questioned further at the police station.'

Authorities were contacting the Swedish Embassy to inform Abdurrahmaan's relatives about his death.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
