A wild Siberian tiger, known as "Wanda Mountain No.1", had once again been captured by their wildlife infrared cameras in a protected area in northern China.

Compared to previous sightings, the tiger appeared to be more robust and glossy.

The Siberian tiger, a flagship species for global biodiversity conservation, had first been successfully rescued in China on April 23, 2021. Named "Wanda Mountain No.1" after being spotted in the southwestern hilly region of Heilongjiang's Wanda Mountains, it was returned to the wild on May 18 of the same year.

This time, staff during a routine patrol in the core area of the northeast China National Nature Reserve and Muling Park of the Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park, once again spotted "Wanda Mountain No.1". In the video, a sturdy Siberian tiger strides confidently, casually passing in front of the camera.

According to Dr Zhao Yue from the National Forestry and Grassland Administration's Felidae Research Center at Northeast Forestry University, the footage of the tiger was taken in April 2023. After comparison, it was confirmed to be "Wanda Mountain No.1", indicating its successful return to its original habitat.

Additionally, staff members also spotted the silhouettes of two leopards - one large, one small - in other infrared cameras. These leopards, as well as other wildlife species such as brown bears, roe deer, sika deer, and other creatures, were seen thriving in the Muling Forest region, with their populations continually growing.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
