A kind policeman rescued a stray dog that was struck by a car in Thailand.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Samart Sukong, deputy superintendent at the Muang Uthai Thani Police Station, was making patrol rounds in Uthai Thani province when he received a report from his supervisor that a mutt had been hit by a car at around 6:30 am on July 9.

Samart called animal catchers to help him, and proceeded to the scene where the canine was lying injured on the roadside.

Despite its wounds, the wary animal stood up and limped away from the rescuers out of fear. Worried the stressed dog might bight them, the officers borrowed a chicken cage from a resident and used it to trap the pooch.

The rescue mission took around 10 minutes, and the stray was taken to the Wat Sangkat Rattana Khiri temple, where a local animal charity took it in to tend to its wounds.

The dog was later found to have cancer and is now being treated by the Uthai Thani Dog Lover's Foundation.
