In a smart factory of FAW Group, China's leading automaker, a group of engineers is conquering the technical challenges of engine manufacturing. Engines, the beating heart of a vehicle, require precision and expertise.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): YANG YONGXIU, Senior technician at China FAW Group Corporation R&D Center
"I didn't buy it. Why can other countries succeed while we cannot?"
Yang Yongxiu, a senior technician at FAW Group, is a leading member of a research team.
At just 36 years old, Yang already boasts 18 national patents.
After many setbacks, Yang's team managed to design core parameters all by themselves.
SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): YANG YONGXIU, Senior technician at the FAW Group Corporation R&D Center
"Mastering the core parameters is the key to precision manufacturing. We can adjust the parameters according to different needs to ensure accuracy."
The team also contributed to the manufacturing of China's first self-developed V12 engine.
They also upgraded the company's 3-axis CNC milling machine to a 4-axis one, achieving integrated machining from multiple angles.
SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): YANG YONGXIU, Senior technician at China FAW Group Corporation R&D Center
"To achieve the same functionality, we need to spend about 8 million yuan (US$ 1.1 million) on imported equipment. But we can reduce the cost to just 900,000 yuan with independently repurposed equipment. Moreover, it saves time and makes it easier to repair and maintain."
The construction of the First Automotive Works, China's first automotive manufacturing plant and predecessor of FAW Group, was launched in Changchun in 1953, marking the beginning of the nation's auto industry.
Today, this legacy lives on as China's new generation of autoworkers assume their roles in automotive innovation, pursuing their dreams and propelling the industry forward.
