STORYLINE:

The 31st International University Sports Federation (FISU) Summer World University Games, which is scheduled from July 28 to August 8 in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, is just around the corner.

Kenyan student-athletes and coaches have been preparing for the event and shared their expectations for the Chengdu Universiade.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): KELVIN KIMTAI CHEPSIGOR, Student-athlete from Kenya
"I'm Kelvin Kimtai Chepsigor, a student-athlete at Kisii University. Currently, I'm training for the World University Games that will be held in Chengdu, China, and I'll be debuting a half marathon and 10,000 meters. I'm hoping to be the champion.
For me, it's a pleasure (to compete in the Chengdu Universiade), and I want to tell the Chinese audience that I will make them proud. I want to explore China and make friends there."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): JAMES KWALIA, Kenyan long-distance running coach
"We have invited five students to represent Kenya in the World University Games. We started with build-up some months ago. We did some endurance, and now we are doing speedwork, and we have measured them. And now, they are improving a lot.
I have been in China in 2008. We want to learn from them because I see they have a lot of things that they are doing that we are not doing. That's why I want to go there with the athletes and see more of them."
