Passengers had to disembark from a plane when their flight was aborted due to a birdstrike in the aircraft's engine at an airport in Spain.

Travelers on Vueling flight VY2212 were departing from the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport in Barcelona on July 16 morning when a bird was sucked into the Airbus A320's engine on the runway.

Video shows the passengers evacuating using emergency slides following the incident. The tires on the plane's landing gear were also damaged.

In a statement released on Sunday morning, Vueling Airlines said: 'The flight VY2212 BCN-SVQ with departure time scheduled today at 9.10LT has been disembarked after the impact of a bird at El Prat Airport. All passengers have been evacuated normally and a new aircraft has been enabled to operate the flight, estimated time 12.30LT.'
