Stranded campers held onto their tent as a thunderstorm spoiled their weekend outdoor fun.

Footage shows the group of friends soaked in the rain as they tried to pack up amid bad weather at the Bambusa campsite in Phetchaburi province, Thailand on July 16.

The young lads had just finished setting the small tables and folding chairs next to their dome tent when a heavy downpour struck.

One of the campers Ap Vacay said they didn't expect the sudden change in weather as it was sunny when they arrived.

She said: ‘We were excited to start grilling for lunch. We were all hungry after pitching up tents, then it rained.'

Ap added they waited for the rain to stop and moved to a cabin nearby.

She said: ‘The rain was so heavy one of the tents collapsed. It was so bad but that's the camping life.'

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are approaching their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
