Padang City, Indonesia is recovering as its fire department team rolls up its sleeves to clean up after deadly landslides and floods recently hit the area. Two fire engines and dozens of personnel were dispatched Monday (July 17) to remove mud and rocks from several main roads, schools, houses, and places of worship.

"Due to landslides and floods that hit the city of Padang, the Padang city government decided to close several services and schools because many buildings were buried under landslides," said Sutan Hendra, head of the Padang fire department. "We cleared mud that has a thickness of 30 centimeters to 1-meter so that these public facilities are used again," he added.

The southern area of Padang City was reportedly hit the hardest, with dozens of residential houses, schools, and places of worship affected. Hendra informed that the calamity claimed the lives of two toddlers.
