Myanmar army burns down homes in attack on village

Soldiers allegedly attacked a village and set fire to houses in Myanmar on Monday.

Footage shows several wooden properties ablaze in the Takantha Village in Shwebo Township following reported airstrikes by the Burmese junta on July 17. The village is located near Hanlin town, where skirmishes have been erupting for around two days.

On Sunday, a bomb exploded at the Shwebo Myoma market and injured at least eight civilians, local media reported.

Burmese media reported that clashes between the military junta and resistance groups have flared up over the previous two weeks. There were casualties reported on both sides, though the exact numbers are still unclear.

Thai officials reported that as of July 15, there were around 8,983 Burmese refugees currnt living in temporary shelters in Thailand.

The country has been locked in a civil war following the ousting of democratically elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi by the army in February 2021.
