Children swam in filthy flood as a monsoon storm battered the Philippines.

Footage shows the youngsters splashing around in the dirty water overflowing from clogged drains outside a restaurant following heavy rain in Mandaluyong City, Manila on July 14.

Some of the locals were also seen diving in the murky flood, clinging onto passing tricycles that dragged them through the deluge.

The Philippine Department of Health said it was expecting cases of leptospirosis - a bacterial infection caused by floodwaters contaminated with animal urine - to rise as monsoon storms continue to hit the country.

The Philippines and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are approaching their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
