A tragic and devastating accident occurred on the D2 highway near the Czech city of Brno, resulting in the loss of one life and leaving 76 individuals injured, with 14 of them in critical condition. The heart-wrenching incident unfolded on Monday, July 17, 2023, when a bus collided with the rear of another bus on this major motorway.

The catastrophe struck near the village of Rebesovice, in close proximity to Brno, the second-largest city in the Czech Republic. Among the injured was the unfortunate fatality, identified as one of the bus drivers.

According to a statement from the Czech Police, the collision between the two buses occurred on the 3rd kilometer of the D2 highway in the direction of Brno, causing a serious traffic pileup. First responders and emergency crews from the Fire Rescue Service swiftly arrived at the scene to provide aid, but the situation remained challenging due to impassable communication routes.

The critically injured passengers received priority medical attention and were quickly airlifted to nearby hospitals in Brno for intensive care. Meanwhile, the D2 highway heading toward Brno remained closed while rescue operations were underway. However, the dedicated efforts of the emergency services led to the successful clearing of the roadway, restoring traffic flow minutes before midnight.
