A pet dog rode a styrofoam box to escape heavy floods submerging a road in southern Thailand.

Footage shows the sea-fearing pooch floating on his makeshift vessel along the waterlogged road in Ranong province on July 18.

Onlooker Kh In from Myanmar, a short boat drive over the border, is heard in the video shouting out to the 'where are you going?'.

Kh said a second dog was also lying down in the box.

He said: 'These two dogs were just staying dry from the water. I was surprised at how calm they were. They were not worried by the flood and they didn't try to jump out of the box.'

The dog's owner decided to place the pooch and a second mutt in the box following a monsoon storm that had battered the area. As the floodwaters were too high, the pooches stayed inside as residents waited for the deluge to recede.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are approaching their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
