Residents scooped out filthy knee-deep floods flowing into their homes during a storm in the Philippines.

Footage shows frantic locals using buckets to drain their houses following monsoon rains that battered Taguig City in Manila on July 14.

Murky water reached up to their knees, drenching their furniture.

Resident Jona Custodio said: 'I hope the authorities do something about this. It always floods here during the rainy season.'

State weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the heavy rain was caused by a low pressure area amplified by the southwest monsoon.

The Philippines and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are approaching their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
